Toner, Essence or Mist: The First Gesture of the Morning

Damask rose petals macerating in water, fine bubbles rising to the surface, Maison AQAY Paris

Before any oil, there is water. A dew of rose on clean skin, and the day can begin.

Toner vs essence: two waters, two intentions, often confused on the same shelf. Between them lives a third, lighter still, the face mist. Each prepares the skin in its own way, and each has its moment.

What is the difference between a toner and an essence?

A toner is the water that follows cleansing: it refreshes the skin and prepares it for what comes next. An essence is a slightly more concentrated water, pressed into the skin with the hands. The toner opens the way; the essence lingers.

Toner, essence, serum: in what order?

From the lightest texture to the richest: toner, essence, serum, then cream. Water opens, oil nourishes, cream closes. The Maison’s morning holds three gestures in this spirit: the Floral Elixir Mist, the Rich Elixir Serum, then the Elixir Moisturizing Cream.

Is rose water a toner?

Yes, and among the oldest. The Floral Elixir Mist is one: Damask rose water from the Valley of Roses, at Kelaat M’Gouna, joined with plant-based hyaluronic acid. Misted into the palm, then laid on the face, it brings the rose to the skin at the first light.

What is a face mist?

Water offered as a veil. At Maison AQAY Paris, the mist is first gathered in the hand, then laid on the face, and may return at any hour to revive the skin. Made of rose water, it is toner and mist at once, the first gesture of L’Étoile de l’Aube.

First the water, then the gold.
